PCB ASSEMBLY / ENGINEERING & PROCUREMENT

PCB Assembly Basics

Understand the build sequence, terminology and handoffs.

Start with these checks

  • Fabrication creates the bare circuit board; assembly adds the components. Keep their release files synchronized.
  • Agree on purchasing, first-article review, inspection and shipment responsibilities before the order.
  • Record the approved design revision on the quotation and build paperwork.

Turn the review into a build decision

Keep decisions in the approved build package rather than scattered across messages. Identify the board revision, the person responsible for the decision and any conditions the assembler must follow. Where a process limit or standard applies, confirm the current requirement with the responsible manufacturer or specification owner.

Continue the project review

Review how it works. Use the file checklist to keep the release complete and the templates and tools to organize the handoff.
