Turnkey PCB Assembly

Turnkey assembly brings bare-board fabrication, component purchasing and assembly into one coordinated order. It suits teams that want to manage a build specification instead of a collection of individual purchase orders.

Define the purchasing scope

Send a BOM with manufacturer part numbers, quantities and reference designators. State whether alternate manufacturers or equivalent parts are acceptable. An assembler should return a shortage list and proposed substitutions for approval before placing orders.

Set the rules for substitutions

Separate approved alternates from parts that must match the exact MPN. This is especially important for firmware-dependent devices, connectors, RF parts and components with safety or qualification requirements. A similar package does not establish electrical compatibility.

Agree on ownership and traceability

Specify who owns excess components, how unused stock will be returned or held, and what purchasing records you need. Ask for the approved BOM revision to appear on the quotation and build documentation.

What to include in your RFQ

  • BOM with exact MPNs and approved alternates
  • Gerber and drill files with a matching revision
  • Placement file and assembly drawing
  • DNP positions and special handling notes
  • Quantity, test coverage and target delivery

Confirm the process limits, material availability and acceptance criteria in your project quotation. They depend on the design and the manufacturing facility.
