PCB ASSEMBLY / ENGINEERING & PROCUREMENT
Capability review
Specify the board. Confirm the process. Keep the evidence with the order.
Ask for limits that match your design
A capability list is only useful when it describes the process your board actually needs. Supply the component mix, board construction and assembly drawing so the manufacturer can assess the complete build.
| Review area | What to provide | What to confirm |
|---|---|---|
| SMT and fine pitch | Smallest package, pitches and land patterns | Placement and stencil process suitability |
| BGA and QFN | Package details and via construction | Hidden-joint inspection and acceptance |
| Board handling | Outline, thickness, mass and panel drawing | Carrier, rail and support requirements |
| Materials | Stackup, finish and sensitive components | Reflow, moisture and handling constraints |
| Verification | Test plan, firmware and fixture information | Coverage, records and failure disposition |
Verify evidence, not badges
If your project requires a certified manufacturing system, ask for the current certificate, its scope and the facility it covers. Product approval, material declarations and assembly acceptance standards answer different questions; one does not substitute for another.
Record requirements before purchasing
- Identify mandatory requirements and preferences separately.
- Reference applicable specifications and revision numbers.
- Agree on how exceptions and engineering changes are approved.
- Keep the reviewed capability requirements with the quotation.
